Personal Training and Fitness Classes

At the front of our space, our multipurpose room is equipped with various exercise equipment for your health and fitness needs!

Nest’s Certified Personal Trainer Ingrid specializes in prenatal and postnatal coaching via group classes, 1-on-1, and 1-on-2 personal training.

What is a personal trainer? A Personal Trainer helps individuals develop a healthier lifestyle by guiding them through physical activity. They are responsible for creating a safe and effective workout plan, teaching clients how to perform exercises safely, and educating clients on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle through nutrition, exercise and lifestyle changes.

Pregnancy & Exercise

The Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology and Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada encourage women to continuously exercise while pregnant, including in the third trimester. Being sedentary is considered to be much riskier to parent and baby than being active in a safe and moderate way.

During pregnancy, there are even more reasons to keep moving — or get moving, even if you haven’t had an exercise routine in the past. Your body is dramatically changing and staying physically active can significantly help reduce the impact that being pregnant has on your body (prolapses, hip and back pain, too much weight gain, and fatigue). Studies have shown that individuals who exercise during pregnancy have a much more enjoyable pregnancy.

Benefits of exercising while pregnant include:

  • Reduce risk of pregnancy complications
  • Improve stamina and heart health
  • Decrease back and hip pain
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Fight fatigue
  • Improve circulation
  • Relieve constipation
  • Improve sleep
  • Speed up postpartum recovery
  • Help lose pregnancy weight
  • Prepare body for physical demands of baby

Regardless of your fitness background or goals, you can work together with Ingrid to design a program specific to you to support your fitness and health goals, improve core and pelvic floor health, and strengthen you for the demands of parenthood.

Postpartum & Exercise

The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada and the Canadian Society for Exercise and Physiology recommend that postpartum individuals slowly return to physical activity after giving birth and work their way up to 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous aerobic physical activity per week.

At Nest, Ingrid welcomes you to bring baby with you to the postpartum fitness classes (you can babywear for extra bonding and fitness challenge!), or to come without baby for some time away from parenting.

Benefits of exercising after recovering from childbirth include:

  • Improving mood, mental health, confidence, and self-esteem
  • Gaining strength to keep up with infant and child care
  • Lower postpartum weight retention
  • Improving pelvic health
  • Creating social networks with others on similar journeys
  • Improving posture, mobility, flexibility, and stability
  • Fostering connections with baby and your surroundings
  • Improving energy levels
