Mental Health Counselling

Mental health counselling provides an empowering environment for you to be supported, heard, and learn tools to improve your mental health.

Nest’s mental health therapists Paschia and Malisa have knowledge and experience in supporting individuals working through perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, loss, and the transitions involved in parenthood. Using a variety of therapy methods such as Emotion Focused Therapy, Solution Focused, and Relational-Cultural Therapy, they are able to support individuals on their perinatal wellness journeys.

Perinatal Mental Health

Perinatal encompasses both prenatal (before birth), and postnatal (after birth). The transition into parenthood or the adjustment of a family unit is a big life event. Body changes in pregnancy, pain, birth experiences, lack of sleep, the demands of early parenthood, and shift in identity and roles can overwhelm and have an intense impact on mental health.

Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs)

Perinatal anxiety and depression can be experienced by 15% to 50% of all individuals postpartum, affecting both birthing people and their partners.

Obsessive compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and psychosis are additional mental health disorders that are also prevalent perinatally.

Are you at risk?

Individuals that are predisposed to perinatal mood and anxiety disorders may have:

    • a family or personal history of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders
    • previous mental health concerns
    • difficulty conceiving, difficulty in pregnancy or a difficult birth
    • being a single parent or a parent of multiples
    • current or past experiences of domestic violence, abuse, poverty, divorce, loss of a loved one, and/or financial difficulty

Seeking therapy while pregnant, postpartum, and/or coping through loss can greatly improve your overall health and wellness. Our mental health counsellors Paschia and Malisa offer support in-person and virtual to accommodate her clients’ individual needs.
